Spencer Reinhard is an art student who cannot find meaning in his life. To fill his life with new emotions and find inspiration, he goes to the library, where are stored very rare books. In the library he develops a brilliant plan to steal the valuable book 'American Animals'. Together with his friend, who is studying in order to please his parents, they are looking for a buyer for a book stolen in the future. Thus begins the story of one of the most brilliant and high-profile robberies.
